Catalog methodology

Scope

Forkr covers four Gus’s Community Market locations in San Francisco and Draeger’s at 1010 University Drive in Menlo Park. We aim to represent every major aisle with the broadest supportable online snapshot. This is not a claim of complete or live inventory.

Permitted sources

Sources may include Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, official retailer pages and public circulars, and manufacturer or distributor material whose terms permit reuse. Each crawler requires an approved allowlist record, current terms and robots review, rate limit, identifiable user agent, retry budget, and kill switch. Forkr does not scrape DoorDash or consumer Instacart catalogs.

Identity and conflicts

Products are matched primarily by UPC or GTIN, then cautiously by brand, normalized name, and package size. Conflicting source facts are preserved for review instead of silently overwritten. Every imported field retains its source URL, observation time, license, parser version, confidence, and evidence hash.

Store confidence

• Retailer-confirmed: directly confirmed by the retailer.
• Official public source: observed in a retailer-controlled public source.
• Licensed third party: received through a permitted provider.
• Inferred: a cautious association that is visibly labeled and never represented as in stock.

Prices and freshness

Price observations are append-only. Forkr displays the latest known observation with its date even when old, labels totals as estimated, and excludes products without a price. Failed parsers mark a source stale and preserve existing observations.

Images and recipes

Only licensed images are stored. Open Food Facts images carry the required attribution; permitted manufacturer images retain their source license. Missing images use a neutral placeholder—Forkr does not generate fake package art. Recipes are original or properly licensed and show attribution when required.

Retailer specials

Gus’s and Draeger’s public specials pages are not ingested. Gus’s terms prohibit robots or similar automatic access, including monitoring or copying website material. Draeger’s terms prohibit commercial collection and automated harvesting of product listings, descriptions, prices, and images. Both adapters remain disabled behind source kill switches unless Forkr receives written permission or a licensed feed.
